The winter forecast by Punxsutawney Phil will be announced sometime after sunrise on Friday at Gobbler’s Knob, the stage for the largest and most famous Groundhog Day celebration in the United States.

Every year, on February 2, Americans living in the cold northern states eagerly await a strange ritual of the groundhog Phil, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. If the friendly rodent emerges from the burrow where it was hibernating without seeing its own shadow, it predicts an early spring weather.

About 10,000 people have traveled in recent years to Punxsutawney, where festivities begin in the early evening and culminate in the mid-winter forecast.

According to NYPOST, a federal agency analyzed his track record last year and put his accuracy rate at about 40%.
