It is said that a glass of water under the bed absorbs negative energies while you sleep. And you can tell it has worked its magic if you see bubbles or cloudiness in the water by morning.
Intrigued, we asked a celebrity psychic and an expert in Feng Shui for homes and gardens, and they agreed that water can dramatically alter a home’s energy.

WHY YOU SHOULD PUT A GLASS OF WATER UNDER THE BED AT NIGHT

If you’re having one of those days or weeks, the ritual of placing a ‘glass of water under the bed’ can be a good test to rid yourself of bad vibes.
Celebrity psychic Inbaal Honigman points out that there are thousands of cleansing and protection spells in all cultures, and she contextualizes this practice: “From a medal of the holy Saint Christopher used by Catholics for protection during travels to placing your crystals on the windowsill to cleanse and charge them under the full moon, we are all aware of many cleansing rituals, and some of them we do intuitively, like sprinkling salt or opening a window to rid the space of bad energy.”

Inbaal Honigman explains that water is a very sensitive and reactive element, specifically associated with emotions and intuition, hence the phrase “I feel it in my waters.”

“As such, water will absorb any negative energy around it,” says Inbaal. “If there’s a heavy or oppressive vibe in the room, a glass of water will soak it up. Place it under the bed so you don’t step on it when you get up in the morning.

“Discard the water in the morning, as fresh water works best. Pour it into a plant that will appreciate it; it’s a good magical practice – and watch the water to see if there are changes before you pour it out. Bubbles, cloudiness, or a change in texture may suggest that your water has absorbed something unpleasant.”

“The glass of water under the bed is not something I’ve come across before, and it really made me aware of the glasses of water I’ve drunk in the morning and left on the nightstand overnight! That won’t happen again!” says Suzanne Roynon.

Suzanne explains that water is often used to enhance Feng Shui in a home, whether in the bedroom or any other room. “We use movement to stimulate a flow of good chi and abundance in a home, and the chosen placement depends entirely on the unique combination of Feng Shui energy needed in each individual home,” she says.

Where the water goes will also depend on your Feng Shui energy map, and if you opt for running water, place it in a small water pump in a large glass container or vase.

“In some very specific situations, it can be beneficial to attract new love, but the most important thing to remember is that, to support Feng Shui, the water should be in constant motion,” Suzanne emphasizes. “This is because, as mentioned earlier, stagnant water absorbs the energy around it, whether it’s negative or positive.

“So, in the morning, never drink the glass of water that was on the nightstand while you slept.”

To make it more effective, sound and energy healer Lydia Bagarozza suggests adding a pinch of salt and praying over the glass of water before placing it under the bed or elsewhere in the room to amplify your intention.

“Something like, ‘Thank you, water, for all that you do. Please help me ensure my space is free from anything out of alignment with the greater good of my home.’ You can set an additional intention for the good vibrations to fill the ‘energetic space’ created by attracting those negative vibes!”

It may sound a bit strange, but anything that encourages us to create a calm and intentional sleep space is a good idea. Taking a few minutes to make our room more peaceful is a way to take care of ourselves. And there are so many ways to do it, whether by trying a ritual like this, giving ourselves our own bed-making service, using a pillow spray, or investing in the best pillows.

Paying attention to your room’s layout and organizing your nightstand will also work wonders, as these areas often become cluttered and confusing.
